We are super excited about our newest piece! We have several pieces in the works, so when I was talking to Tony about this one I have often referred to it as “the stump piece”. So let’s just go ahead and give him a name. Let’s call him “Stumpy”.
For this particular project I completely failed to take any before or during photos, so you’re going to have to use your imagination. We got these hairpin legs from someone who was moving. Super cool, but what do you do with only 3 legs for a table? And one day it came to me. A piece of a tree would look awesome on them there legs.
So while we were up in Big Bear for our anniversary, we drove by a firewood company and asked if we could buy a slab. OK, actually we went to three different places before we found someone who could help us. And of course, we couldn’t make it easy by having them just cut off the end of the log. Nope. We wanted a certain section of the tree. Tony held his ground and our little friend with the chainsaw kindly obliged! You have never seen two people so excited about a piece of tree!
Since I didn’t take photos of the before or during process, here’s what we’ve got. The first is a picture of a poplar tree. That’s the kind of tree “stumpy” is made from. Consider this the REALLY before picture. And then here’s me after just one of the sanding sessions on this thing.
We are really happy with how it turned out. What a great side table.
